HELPS DISSOLVE STONES: Innovative urinary tract cat food helps dissolve pure struvite stones and helps prevent calcium oxalate stones

BLADDER HEALTH: Lowers the risk of crystal formation using RSS methodology for cat bladder health

S/O INDEX: The exclusive S/O Index creates an environment unfavorable to crystal formation in the bladder to support urinary health

HELPS PREVENT STONE REOCCURANCE: Specialized diet, with a reduced level of magnesium, helps prevent struvite stones from reoccurring

When your cat has urinary issues, easing their discomfort requires special care. But with the help of your veterinarian and Royal Canin, there’s not just hope—there can be a true difference.

This veterinary-exclusive dry cat food was developed to nutritionally support your adult cat’s urinary tract and bladder health. It increases the amount of urine your cat produces to help dilute excess minerals that can cause crystals and stones. Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology is used to help lower ion concentration in urine, which contributes to stone formation. This formula promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the formation of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals. And this specialized nutrition, with a reduced level of magnesium, helps dissolve pure struvite stones and prevent struvite stones from forming. Lower urinary tract issues may be a recurring concern for some cats. Talk to your veterinarian about keeping your cat on this urinary cat food for long-term urinary support. And ask them about the right Royal Canin wet cat food and treats to complement your cat’s diet.

Formulation change? Vomiting cats

We have been using RC U S/O for over 10 years. We recently got a large bag of this food in the Netherlands and our cats began vomiting for several weeks after starting the new bag. Our one older cat passed away and we are unsure if this food played a part because she didn't want to eat any more and we struggled to get her to eat enough of any other food. She passed away shortly after not wanting to eat this food any longer.

IRRESPONSIBLE INGREDIENT CHANGE: SEVERE VOMITTING

My 6 yr old male cat had a severe urinary blockage 5 years ago. The vet and ASPCA both prescribed him a strict diet of this food and ONLY this food for the rest of his life essentially in order to prevent another blockage and future bladder crystal formation. My cat has absolutely loved this food for the past 5 years (2020 — May 2025) and would absolutely devour it. I even had to get him a slow feeder so he wouldn’t inhale all of it in one gulp, he loveD (emphasis on past tense) it so much. Over the weekend we opened up a new bag of this food for him that was delivered a few months ago (we are on a new auto deliveries and always have 1 bag waiting unopened until we finish the first). Nothing looked, smelled or felt any different about the kibble itself or the packaging it came in. My cat immediately began violently vomiting for a straight 72 hours, and stopped eating and drinking altogether during that time. I thought the worst, even though he is still a young, healthy cat. I had to take him to the emergency vet clinic when on the second day he still wasn’t eating and was still throwing up every hour or so. $3000 vet bill later, only to learn that it is THIS GD FOOD THAT WAS/IS CAUSING ALL OF THE PROBLEMS BECAUSE **THE INGREDIENTS DRASTICALLY CHANGED WITHOUT ROYAL CANIN EVER NOTIFYING ANYONE OF SAID CHANGES!!!!!!!!** Royal Canin, do not tell me to reach out to customer service to “resolve” this. The literal only way this can be resolved is if you change back the formula and ingredients to how it was originally, pre-2024. How could you nonchalantly change a prescription food that you know full well so many pets vitally need for their health in order to maintain healthy, basic bodily functions? This is literally PRESCRIPTION FOOD. It is essentially MEDICATION. Where do you get off making such huge changes to the ingredients without consulting or alerting any of the tens of thousands of pet owners that trusted you and relied on you for their cat’s health? My cat cannot eat any other type of food, yet since you’ve changed the formula he refuses to eat this anymore. If he does, he violently throws up for 3+ days, stops eating and drinking, becomes super lethargic, and I’m left with a $3000 emergency vet bill. I can’t express enough how much of a disservice and a disgrace this move was to your loyal customers and their beloved pets who RELY ON YOU to stay out of harm’s way. Absolutely despicable. Resolve THAT.

Cheaper than emergency vet bills

I just switched from generic commercialized cat food, to Royal Canin SO, after my vet found crystals in Galaxy's urine. We did try another prescription brand but he refused to eat it so I was able to return it. People are commenting or complaining, or whatever about the price of a prescription cat food, but prescriptions for humans are more expensive than nonprescriptions, and I don't see why cat food would be any different. Sure it costs more, but in my case, it's worth it if I can avoid $2000 vet bills. Galaxy will only eat 1/2 a tin twice a day and Pearl also enjoys the RCSO. Opal refuses to touch it. She'll sniff it, take a bite or two and the walk away. Im not worried, I got this in dry food form also. Ever since I switched them to this cat food, I have noticed better urinary habits and a lot less vet visits.

Helps with crystals but to expensive

He was put on this food 3 years ago for his stones and his weight. He only gets 1/4 of a cup 2 times a day and is starving all the time and has put on weight. Had everything checked vet said because of his breed mix he maybe just a big cat. But he hates the food but eats it because that is all there is. Helps with stones but that is it. Super expensive for garbage now I have found what they use to make it.

Great but overpriced

I bought this few days ago and my cat needs to only eat this for at least a month but the price is so high

You should be ashamed of yourselves!!!

Cats are OBLIGATE CARNIVORES!  That means MEAT! Not “meal” and it certainly does not mean CELLULOSE.  You have incredible nerve charging what you do for this garbage!  Charging what you charge for “chicken byproduct meal” as the only source of protein!!!

Works Wonders for my Cat

My cat is 14 years old, four years ago he was very ill, bleeding when he tried to urinate. He was in so much pain.😔 After I took him to a vet, he was hospitalized for further treatment after it was determined he had crystals. He's been on dry and wet Royal Canin urinary ever since, and he's doing great for a fourteen year old. He does not have any side effects.

Works great just overpriced

My cat was put on this food after a lifesaving surgery. This is all he’s able to eat now! So far he does amazing and his weight has maintained a steady consistency. I’mhappy to say he’s been well since his food change! However the only complaint I have is the price is outrageous 😭 I can barely afford it and sadly it’s not like I can just find him a better home since he now has to wear diapers as well! Plus he’d miss us to much.

Bi-product meal? No thank you!

I will never understand how this is legal. It`s not even close to being adequate nutrition. The ingredients tell a nice story. I was shocked when my Vet insisted I use this
Royal Canin response
By-products are an excellent source of protein, fat, minerals, and vitamins. These foods play many vital roles in a dog or cat’s body by supplying essential amino acids used for building and renewing organs and muscles, supporting the immune system, and supplying energy. By-products from animals and grains used in reputable pet food products are derived from the very same sources as human foods and are safe, nutritious, and approved for use in pet food by federal and state government agencies.

Seems to have a side effect- vomiting

I bought this because my vet told me it was the only food that breaks down the crystals my cat has. However, like others have mentioned, she throws it up when she decides to eat it. She would not eat the wet food.
